I found that the most successful part of my piece was the blending of the yellow and orange glaze to create the colors in the sun, and alongside these colors the glass creates a cool effect. If i was going to go back and change something i would have only used clear glass instead of the multi color glass i used, it would make the piece look cleaner. My subject matter is the sun and waves, and i chose this subject because of some abstract artwork that had a swirly sun and waves. I wanted to take a different angle on that if the form of my relief piece The most successful part of my piece is me removing the first layer of the cardboard to create the bark of the tree, its successful because it incorporates the cardboard as texture. If i was going to go back and change something it would be to add more layers on to the tree to give it a more 3d effect. My subject matter is a tree, I chose this because I thought cardboard would give me the texture i wanted, and cardboard is made out of trees.
The fur was the easiest texture to make, a hard part though was deciding how to overlap the lines. The hard part about the rock texture was creating crevices in the clay to look like anything remotley similar to a rock.
My inspired artist is Matt Shlian an artist who primarily works with paper to create intricate geometric patterns, here is a link to his website https://www.mattshlian.com/. I have always been drawn to artwork that has geometric patterns. It's very neat to see someone use a simple material like paper to create something intricate and complex. It inspires me because of the complexity of the design and the simplicity of the fact that it is just white paper.
