To start the process I made a tray using a mold that I did by making a slab of clay to put over the mold and cut out, that was left to dry and harden. Once the clay was hard enough to make my design I painted on a black underglaze that was fired. I then used a needle like clay tool to scratch on my design I scratched out only certain areas of the black underglaze to make my design. After i had made my design I dunked my piece into a clear overglaze that was then fired to make the final product.
I thought that the sgraffito process was fairly simple and easy to do. It was not a hard or long process that created cool designs in pieces. It was fun to do and I ended up really liking my design
I think my piece was successful in the simplicity of the design I was content in the construction of my clay piece and the design that came out. The otter came out to be very cute in its canoe which was the goal of the piece to create a cute design. I liked how the waves came out around the canoe, but not the water line. If i was to change anything it would be to make sure the otter's nose and hand came out correctly which they did not due to some errors on my part. I would have also redone the water line to make it neater.
